Author Biography

Phyllis Barnes Lawlor

Author of “Invisible Child” - a memoir of her childhood living with a schizophrenic mother.

Born in a suburb of Montreal, Phyllis, along with  her siblings, spent much of their childhood in and out of foster homes and orphanages. They moved twenty-eight times before Phyllis was ten years old and often the family was separated for months at a time.

Phyllis, with her husband of twenty-five years, Wayne, now live in Chatham, Ontario. She is a Kinship Grandmother to her three special needs grandchildren with ages ranging from twelve to three years. She works in customer service with a local company using her bilingual skills of both French and English.

Her life is very full but she still finds time for charity work. For two years, Phyllis volunteered in a women's shelter. She moved on to become a Victims Service Officer, where she helps people and families dealing with domestic abuse both on the telephone and face to face.

She is also deeply involved with her local church and founded the non profit group 'God's Kids of Chatham-Kent'. It is in the early stages, but the goal is to create a 24/7 open house with a warm atmosphere and home cooking where teens and young adults can come and find a safe haven to talk and receive counselling.  If you would like to find out more about that group you can find their page at  http://gods-kids.blogspot.ca/

Phyllis was saved at the age of 20, and since then she has had the desire to help and tell her story. Before that, it was too painful and from the years of healing, she is much stronger. In August  2012. she appeared on the 700 Club Show. This was the start of her devotion to open up and talk candidly about her experiences and life, however, this just scratches the surface of her story and she feels there is much more that needs to be said.

Her book, “Invisible Child” depicts the abuse she endured during her childhood and adolescence  and the  consequences of that upbringing, God saved her from falling down the same route that so many other children will and have followed after such a traumatic upbringing. Through sheer determination, Phyllis has been able to break the cycle. She even found it in her heart to forgive her mother, even after the years of torment, and they managed to create a loving relationship before her mother died.

Using her experiences, and with the help and love of her family and God, Phyllis is keen to give her empathy and help others. She hopes that one day her words will touch other victims and help them to realise that this is not their burden to carry. She wants to give them the knowledge that they are beautiful and special. To help them see through the scars to the diamond they are underneath.

Because of her desire to mentor, she is keen to meet any requirements necessary to promote her story and reach out to as many people as possible. Her passion for helping others is apparent as soon as you meet her. She hopes the proceeds of the book sales will give her the freedom to dedicate more time to reaching her goal to counsel those who have a suffered similar life.

The Next Step in Bring This Ministry Forward

Just set-up our - Not-For-Profit - GOD'S KIDS MINISTRY OF CHATHAM-KENT bank account. Now the planning starts for the next Event of this Ministry, we are Expecting from God a windfall to allow us to either purchase a commercial building in the core of downtown Chatham or have use of a Facility that is FREE to allow the furtherance of this Ministry.

There was an interview with one of the Founders of GOD'S Kids, along with our Senior Pastor from our Church, by - The 700 Club, http://www.cbn.com/700club/ who came down from Hamilton, ON to document and film this, then to broadcast in about 8 weeks. GOD'S kids - Planning for Next Event

Well, we are happy to report the first Event went very well, we had between 25 and 30 people attend, there was much music thanks to JP & Rent's. The soup was excellent along with the sandwiches, so I would like to thank all the volunteers for slicing the lunch meat and making the sandwiches also Mike R for doing an excellent job on the soup preparation.
I would also like to thank Theresa N of The Shepherds Way Inn for allowing us to use her establishment for this Event, a big thank-you to  Mike Koppes Senior Pastor of Praise Fellowship Church, for saying the opening prayer for GOD'S-kids  Ministry and The Shepherds Way Inn.
We also had Ernie Tell from Teen Challenge come down from London, thank-you, after about 2 hours we had some preaching from Ken E one of our Church members then closing words and prayer from pastor Mike Koppes.
In addition to all the mentioned above, I would like to say thank-you to all the businesses that supported this ministry, GOD'S-kids, with their Donations of kindness and consideration of needed supplies, without your help this would have not been as Successful.

GOD'S kids Opening Day

In about 19 hours, all the planning, the phone calls, buying food, making the necessary arrangements will all come to a realization, and GOD'S kids will be open to the public, temporarily using The Shepherd's Way Inn, located at 260 King Street W, so anybody that wishes to sit and relax in a friendly atmosphere is welcome. We are standing in Faith and  believing in God, to supply a building for GOD'S kids in the near future.
We will have hot soup, refreshments and live music along with people to chat with and if we can help with information regarding resumes or jobs, we will and if not, we can get you going in the right direction.
There will be a Healing Service Sunday night at Praise Fellowship Church which is located at 165 Park St E  Chatham, ON, at 7:00pm so if you need physical healing please stop in for the service.
Better still if you do not have a Church or a Church family, our services start at 10:30am so again, please stop by and see what you have been missing :).
GOD'S kids will be starting to plan our next event, so if  God, touches your Heart, to Sow into this Not-For-Profit, ministry and the furtherance of Gods work please hit the Donate button on any of the the blog pages to Bless this needed Outreach or see either Phyllis, Theresa or myself (Kirk) to Bless in person.
The amount is not as important, as deciding to Bless this ministry, or deciding not too, God already knows what you are thinking or feeling.
2CO 9:6 The more good we sow, the more good we reap. Let us be generous and bountiful in sowing good seed.
Well I am looking forward and praying, to see lots of people, familiar or new, stop in to say hello and have either a sandwich or bowl of soup or both, and just to fellowship. In my Bible, it says in, 
Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

GOD'S kids - Only 2 more days

So quickly approaching, only two days till GOD'S kids Opening, we now have all the sandwich ingredients, bread, lunch meat along with all the soup ingredients. We have the needed volunteer help for the sandwich making and a gentleman from our local Church, to prepare our soup for GOD'S kids.
God's kids have been blessed with a contemporary rock styling music group, named JP & Rent's coming into town for our listening pleasure at no charge, but if you feel like blessing them with some money, that would be up to you.
God's kids will also have an anointed pastor, from our Church, to say the Opening Prayer asking for Grace along with Blessings for the furtherance of this Ministry. If you have any questions feel free to ask the Pastor.
 God's kids will have representatives, from Teen Challenge, coming from London, to answer any questions you may have about what they do and their beliefs and how they may be of help to you, if God puts it on your heart to  bless them with some money, to help cover their traveling expenses that would be awesome.
God's kids will have a Prayer board, mounted inside The Shepherd's Way Inn, located at 260 King street west, so if you need a Prayer or know someone who needs a Prayer, feel free to put there name on the Prayer Board, and many Christians will pray in force and continually for them.
There will also be a Healing Service at Praise Fellowship Church, located at 165 Park Avenue east, Sunday evening March 4/ 2012, at 7:00pm, if you need healing, you need to attend this service.
God's kids, is still in need of your Donations, to Sow into this Not-For-Profit Ministry, which can be transacted on the blog site, or in person with either Phyllis Barnes Lawlor, Theresa Nadeau or myself Kirk Dawes, for the furtherance of this ministry.
